Welcome to the website for Wise County Historical Society, Inc. and Wise County Historical Commission.

This site was also home to the Wise County Heritage Museum housed in a 130-year-old building which was originally the Decatur Baptist College, located at 1602 South Trinity Street in Decatur, Texas.  Though we lost this beautiful old building and all its contents to a devastating fire in March 2023, the Historical Society and the Historical Commission are still alive with the activity of preserving Wise County’s past.

While our main building may have been lost we are now located on the Decatur Square at 119 N. State St., Decatur, Texas 76234.

We are only accepting monetary donations at this time. Donations may be made by credit card on this website or by check by mailing to 119 N. State St., Decatur, TX.  We can also take credit card donations on the phone. We are still taking research requests; please call 940-627-5586 or email contact@wisehistory.com.

Help us preserve local history. DONATE Members are the core of the Wise County Historical Society. For only $20 a year you can become a member and help us keep local history alive. You'll also receive our monthly newsletter, early notice of events, and other benefits! JOIN As a nonprofit organization, we primarily rely on donations from individuals and businesses. Any donation, large or small, is appreciated and will be used to help us preserve history and educate the community about our shared past. VOLUNTEER Our volunteers are what keep us going. We are always looking for people willing to help with a variety of tasks, including lawn care, office filing, staffing events, and many other things. With the tragic loss of the Wise County Heritage Museum building in 2023, we need your help more than ever.
