A Texas 1936 Centennial Marker. In 1936, the State of Texas Legislature created a commission to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Texas independence from Mexico. A part of this celebration consisted of the placing of about 1,100 statues, and granite and bronze markers and monuments around Texas.
