WISE COUNTY HISTORICAL SITES

One of the primary tasks for any Texas State Historical Commission is to preserve and document historical sites.  The Wise County Historical Commission is made of a board of historical commissioners appointed by the County Judge and County Commissioners each year to make sure our history is preserved for our descendants in the future.

If you know of a historical fact, place, building, or organization that may need to be preserved, please contact us at [email protected].

Below is a list of historical sites in Wise County.  Many years and hours of research and toil go into each and every site.  Our responsibility does not stop upon the dedication of a marker, but continues for years to come.  Each marker must be maintained and repaired every few years.  Sometimes a marker is destroyed by accident or vandalism and it is the responsibility of the Wise County Historical Commission to carry the burden of the cost.  Your volunteer work and donations will help us maintain our history!

With the tragic loss of the Wise County Heritage Museum building in 2023, we need your help more than ever. We continue to move forward and are working to restore the site to house important local artifacts and historical documents. Fortunately, there are many ways you can support us in this effort.
